Some of the active research programs are being conducted in clinic settings that have affiliation with Mercy Medical Center. These clinical practices include:  Iowa Heart Center, Iowa Orthopaedic Center, Mercy Ruan Neurology Clinic, Mercy Osteoporosis and Arthritis Center, Mercy Critical Care Unit, and Iowa Diabetes and Endocrinology Center.

Hospital-based research programs--Mercy Family Medicine Residency Program and Mercy Surgical Affiliates--include clinical programs that have postgraduate training activities in which residents are available to collaborate on research projects.

Hospital-based programs in areas that do not include residency training, but have ongoing activities in clinical research, include: obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine and infectious disease.

Approximately 115 clinical trials are underway at Mercy. Of those, approximately 90 percent are drug-related and 10 percent are device-related. Clinical trials registered with the federal government may be accessed at  http://ClinicalTrials.gov.

Physicians interested in working on research with these ares should contact ICTCR through Bryan Larsen, Ph.D., executive director, by e-mail at blarsen@mercydesmoines.org or bryan.larsen@dmu.edu or by phone at (515) 247-4435 (Mercy) or  (515) 271-1559 (DMU).
